IN LESS THAN 50 WORDS:
This was a 450kms sing le ride to one of the most beautiful reservoirs I have seen till date. This ride was more of a catching up kind of trip. The place being so blissful and serene was chosen wisely so that we could sit and chat at our own pace. November was shaping up to be one of those x-treme months, 2 trips in the first 5 days and this being the 3rd in the first 9 days of the month. Yes, this is what we crave \m/
INTRO & PLAN:
It had been 5 months since Zethu’s departure to Mumbai. When he mentioned that he would be dropping in town shortly, we decided over phone to have a short ride planned to catch up. The weather was pleasant as it was just the onset of monsoons. So we decided Vanivilas to be just the thing. Chitradurga? well yes, we did think about it. But we decided to stick to VV Dam.
TIME: 22:00 (8/11/2014)
ASSEMBLE & LEAVE:
Yeah I was up at 05:00, did a few push ups & situps, had a cup of coffee and was all set to go. Left my home at about 06:00 and rode towards Malleswaram on the ORR where the meet up was scheduled. Met Zethu near Mahalakshmi layout and after brief greeting we decided to head out of Bangalore before the sun went blazing guns.
RIDE 1: (Bangalore – Tumkur – Sira – Hiriyur – Vanivilas Dam)
This was approximately 200kms ride mostly concentrated on wide smooth NH-4. We rode slow side by side chatting initially before the traffic became a little too much. For breakfast we pulled over at our regular hotel over looking the mighty Shivagange (Kamadhenu) for some yummy breakfast.
One we finished our breakfast we had some tea and loafed around outside the hotel for some time regarding the 100th trip to Kuntibetta. We continued at a decent pace passing through the cities of Tumkur, Sira and Hiriyur. Once we passed the latest, we found the deviation that led to the reservoir. Surprisingly the arch that made the deviation to be spotted easily was pulled down. Riding 15-20kms after the deviation, through a couple of towns we ended up at the reservoir.
VANI VILAS SAGARA DAM:
Like always, there she stood quietly and totally tranquil. And there I stood there mesmerized by the beauty (and more of the quietness :P) We walked all the way across the bund and found a neat little spot where we could sit and have a good look at the entire place. The windmills on top of the mountains and below the calm standstill water. With the breeze just blowing right we settled down and spoke. We spend nearly 2hours at Vanivilas after which we thought it was time to head back home.
RIDE 2 ( Vanivilas – Hiriyur – Sira – Tumkur – Bangalore)
The ride back was again a smooth one but under the hot afternoon sun. But this time surprisingly we did not stop for lunch. We just kept riding non-stop with a few stops here and there. We rode at a very decent pace to reach Yeshwanthpur at about 15:30. We pulled over thanked each other for making it and headed our own ways to reach our respective homes.
