Waterbodies

Manchinbele

1. MANCHINEBELE:
Distance = 35kms
Roads = Good Roads.
Rating = 3/5
Manchinbele Dam is a famous tourist spot. It is known for the various bird species and also the mishaps that have occurred at this place. The “first view” one gets of the place is truly breath taking. Having Savandurga in the background the reservoir looks really majestic on a shiny day. The Big Banyan tree can be clubbed along with this reservoir. Swimming at his place is prohibited and the waters are dirty.
2. MEKEDATU:
Distance = 100kms
Roads = Good Roads.
Rating = 4.5/5
Mekedatu is located near town of kanakpura. Known for its violent water force, one must be extra careful at this dangerous spot. One reaches Mekedatu after crossing Sangama (where one can get into water safely) then walk/board a bus for 2-3kms. Sangama here is the confluence of Arkavathi & Kaveri.
3. SHIVANASAMUDRA:
Distance = 150kms
Roads = Excellent Roads. If maddur route is taken, then bad roads for 15km between Malavalli & Maddur.
Ride Rating = 4/5
Shivanasamudra is Asia’s first Hydel Power Plant. The river Kaveri splits into two resulting in two falls. First being Gaganchukki & the second is Barachukki. One could go below the falls at Barachukki, but due to recent mishaps it is banned by the Government. In one of our chapters we had gone below the falls and felt the thumping force of the water falling from over 100meters tight on our head.
5. VANIVILAS SAGARA DAM:
Distance = 200kms
Roads = Excellent Roads
Rating = 4.5/5
Vanivilas Sagara is popularly known as “Marikanive”dam and is situated near Hiriyur. It is the oldest dam in the state and the largest reservoir in Asia. For the construction of the dam, the royals of Mysore had to pledge jewellery and hence the name. One has to take a deviation from the highway after Hiriyur. The place is really serene and tranquil and wash thoughts of our mind straight away. It can be easily clubbed with Chitradurga Fort, making a good 500kms one day bash!
6. PANCHAPALLI DAM:
Distance = 100kms
Roads = Good Roads.
Rating = 4/5
Panchapalli Dam is a peaceful reservoir near Dennaikote near Hosur. The ride to the place is really good, the last part of the same runs parallel to the waters on a hill. Our ride to the place was special as it marked the 50th Trip of our M/C.
7. HOGENEKKAL FALLS:
Distance = 150kms
Roads = Excellent Roads.
Rating = 4/5
Hogenekkal is called “India’s Niagara”. This water body walls in between the states of Karnataka & Tamil Nadu. In Kannada Hoge-kal means “Smoky rocks”. The continual thunder of the waters crashing down makes one feel powerless & humble. The coracle ride at this place is something one must try. And yes, the fish fry too! Our ride to this place was taken through an interior route and it by itself was something extra-ordinary.
8. MAHADEVAPURA:
Distance = 150kms
Roads = Excellent Roads, but difficult to find.
Rating = 4.5/5
Mahadevapura is one of less known anicuts around Bangalore. It is as good as Balmuri Falls and falls in the Mandya district. The water force is quite powerful and one must be careful if one wants to get into them. Lot of bird varieties can be spotted at this place. But the place is quite hard to find and asking the locals is the best way to get to the actual place. We have been there 4-5times till date and we have got lost 3-4times.
9. KANVA RESERVOIR:
Distance = 60kms
Roads = Excellent Roads, but difficult to find.
Rating = 4.5/5
Kanva reservoir is or rather “was” and will be a major tourist attraction. It known for its bird life and surrounded by wooded hills.  It was our favorite get away from college and we have done may trips to this place all throughout the year. It saddens me to say that the waters of this place have dried up since 3 years. But the government has taken up initiative to convert this place into a water park. So let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.
10. BALMURI FALLS:
Distance = 135kms
Roads = Good Roads.
Rating = 4/5
Balmuri falls famous picnic spot for people from both Mysore & Bangalore. It is also a very famous shooting spots for movies. The farms which run on both sides of the flowing river is a bliss to rest in. The falls packs in some mighty punch during the monsoons and hence one should be careful. This falls can be combined with Mysore or Srirangapatna.
11. CHUNCHI FALLS:
Distance = 100kms
Roads = Good Roads.
Rating = 3.5/5
Chunchi Falls is situated near Kanakpura and lies just before Mekedatu. The roads throughout are excellent and the falls can be reached after a long walk on the rocky terrain. The falls is ideal to visit during post monsoon season (Sept-Dec). One must take enough precaution on the rocky surface. Chunchi falls can be combined with Mekedatu for an ideal one day trip.
12. TALAKADU:
Distance = 150kms
Roads = Good Roads until Malavalli, after which narrow roads.
Rating = 3.5/5
Talakadu is more of historical & cultural place. It is known for the various temples lost in the sand dunes. But it also lies on the river banks of Kaveri, which makes it an ideal spot for relaxation. As the river bed is made of sand, playing in water can be an enjoyable experience. We had gone as a bunch of 21 on 11 bikes, so the games were fun and competitive.

Muthati
13. MUTHATI:
Distance = 100kms
Roads = Good Roads until Sathnur, horrible roads after.
Rating = 3.5/5
Muthathi waters are known for their notorious death they have caused over the past years. The vicious whirlpools and crocodile housed waters of Muthathi is something one must watch out for. But one can always rest on the river banks and take a dip near the banks. But venturing into deep waters is a strict no, as there are lot of rocks on the river bed which may pose danger.

NG Lake
14. NELLIGUDE KERE:
Distance = 35kms
Roads = Good Roads.
Rating = 3.5/5
NG lake is twin lake of Manchinbele. They are only a few kilometres apart. This lake offers a best morning for a peaceful Sunday. A bike can be taken on the bunds and the road that run parallel to it is a bliss to ride upon. This road to this lake continues to reach Bidadi main junction, so one can always think of clubbing Manchinbele with this and finish the chapter with some tasty idly’s at Bidadi.
15. MARKONAHALLI DAM:
Distance = 100kms
Roads = Good Roads.
Ride Rating = 4/5
Markonahalli Dam is situated near Kunigal on Hassan road. It has pleasant waters and the construction of the dam is really interesting. Back in 2012, our club saw one of the best rides to this place. We had to ride 50+kms through thick curtains of fog. So plan well  during Nov-Dec to relish the same.
16. TK FALLS:
Distance = 25kms
Roads = Bad Roads
Ride Rating = 3/5
TK Falls I think, is the closest falls to Bangalore. It is a very nice falls and one can trek up the falls to find abandoned spooky buildings on top. Lately I have been hearing it is unsafe for tourists to go. So in case something is planned, make sure you go in a good group.
17. PONDICHERRY:
Distance = 325kms
Roads = Good Roads mostly, 100kms after Thrivunamallai is horrible.
Ride Rating = 4/5
Pondicherry was French settlement and the influences is still visible till date. This beautiful town harnesses some of the best beaches and wonderful buildings, how can one forget cheap liquor. The ride to Pondicherry can be tiring as the roads after Thiruvanamalai is really bad and it takes a toll on the knee and fingers. One can always combine the beautiful Gingee fort along with this ride.
18. TONNUR LAKE:
Distance = 150kms
Roads = Good Roads
Ride Rating = 4/5
This is pristine water body situated in Pandavpura. It was Zethu who showed us this lake and it has been one of our favorites. The huge water body can be witnessed best after the small hike to the top of adjacent hillock. This place can be easily combined with Melukote for a perfect one day trip.
