Pavagada Fort Trek Guide: 350 KM Winter Ride from Bangalore (The Ultimate Guide) | Chap 218 (Dec 13, 2025)

  • Place: Pavagada Fort trek.
  • Distance: 175 x 2 = 350kms.
  • Directions: Bangalore > Dobbaspete > Koratgere > Madhugiri > Madakasira > Pavagada
  • Krew: Anwar (Bhai), Karthik (Sippy)
  • Bikes: Pulsar
  • Previous Visit: Madakashira Trek.
  • Budget: Rs 600/head (Total: Petrol = 850/2, Breakfast = 90/2, Lunch = 250/2)

IN LESS THAN 50 WORDS:

Pavagada is a 600-year-old fort with 8 layers of fortifications. The trek as such is an easy one, but what makes this run challenging is the long ride to the place, then hiking up the mountain. It offers subtle lessons of planning your ride well and the ability to grind through a long day. But this chapter saw an insane morning fog ride, with visibility reduced to 10-15 feet, we crashed through hard! Let's go.

INTRO & PLAN:

As far as the planning goes, 2025 was in full swing. The past 11 weeks, we have rested for only 1 week and pulled off 10 trips. As 2026 was nearing, we had decided to treat December no differently than Oct / Nov. The plan was simple: after the completion of Madakasira last week, we stretched a little bit more and hit the 175km walk to Pavagada. Bhai was on the confirmed list, and the target was locked! TIME: 14:00 (10/12/2025)

ASSEMBLE & LEAVE:

Okay, I was up at 02:30 and was ready to head out. Then realised it was too early, did a few pushups and pullups to pass time. Then at 04:00, I went down, wiped my bike, spoke to it for a few minutes, then realised the air was really cold. So thought I would go for a small ride within the city before Bhai arrived. Went for a good 7-10km ride on the ORR, and by 5am, Bhai arrived and after a formal greeting, we decided to leave. TIME: 05:15

RIDE 1: (Dobbaspete – Madhugiri - Pavagada)

Alright, this has to be the craziest part of the trip without a doubt. As we left Bangalore, we realised the air was freezing. We zoomed out of the city in a jiffy;before the fog wrapped us up post-Nelamangala. The visibility had dropped down to 10-15feet, but we kept riding at a decent pace. It was very challenging, was damn fun. Hands had become numb, and as we spoke or even took in a breath, we could see mist coming out. Haha. Insane stuff it was. We pulled over at our regular idli stop, where the sweet couple started laughing at our state, hands stiff, shivering like crazy, they offered us idli and set up a small fire to warm us :) TIME: 06:45

Post breakfast, it was still cold, but the sun had eventually begun to win the battle fiercely. The air being cold and sunlight hitting our hands, it felt strangely good. We zoomed past Channarayana Durga to enter Madhugiri, promising her a visit soon, as Bhai had missed it, we refuelled the bike and rode ahead.

We passed by the Ratnagiri junction and Hosakere to zoom into Madakashira, the hillock, for some reason, looked more and more like a lion sitting peacefully. It is also called Simhagiri for this reason. Post Madakashira, it was an easy 20km ride to Pavagada. TIME:09:00

PAVAGADA FORT TREK:

1. ASCENSION:

Pavagada is famous for the "Shani" temple. As we entered the town, 1000's of people had flocked to the town. We asked locals for directions to the start of the trek and parked our bikes, and awakening the goat's spirit within us started the trek. The trek as such is very simple, straightforward steps until the top. The grass had been for the next generation of plants to come. The hillock looked black and charred towards the top, but it looked beautiful in its own way. The fort has 8 gateways and can be completed within 1hour. But treks like these, time should not be considered, as it offers a lot of exploratory opportunities, just go out there and have fun. TIME: 10:15

2. TOP:

The top of Pavagada was very peaceful as there were no other people present. The top has a complex layout, where the king used to reside. And the absolute summit has a lot of outposts for fending off enemies. We admired the beautiful town, which was completely buzzing with people from top and decided to crash and rest for 20-30 minutes as we had a long journey back. TIME: 10:45

3. DESCENSION:

The descent took us only 30 minutes, and it was non-stop. As we zoomed down, we met a priest at the temple. We smiled and were making our way down, he called us and gave us bananas and asked to ride safely back to Bangalore. These kind of tender moments uplifts us, humanity still exists. That genuine care for people whom you don't even know.

As we made down, a local was coming up, with a bag full of biscuits in his hands, he asked us if monkeys were present. I told him not to worry and requested him to carry a stick. He said the bag of biscuits was for the monkeys themselves. And these kind of moments makes us lose hope in humanity :P haha! Poor monkeys had shifted their base of operation to the top, as the hill was burnt, and the person was feeding them. We felt so humbled by these two encounters. TIME: 11:15

RIDE-2: (Pavagada-Madhugiri-Dobbaspete-Bangalore)

Now, here was the challenge: the last 175km, we had to space it well and take enough breaks. As we took off from Pavagada, we thanked the locals and the hillock for a wonderful trek. We zoomed in to reach Madakashira. Made sure, we took the right turn as 5-6roads converge at this town, we zoomed ahead to reach Medigeshi. We decided to take a small breather here.

Looking at Medigeshi, we smiled, remembering the ass-whooping we had received a few weeks back haha! We continued at a decent pace; by now the sun was up, and it was draining. We zoomed past Madhugiri to reach Kortagere. Here we pulled over at a standard stop to re-hydrate. After about 30-45min surgical sitting, we took off to reach Whity dhaba for well deserved lunch. Post the lunch we hit back the road hard and reached homes safely :) TIME:16:30

CONCLUSION:

“This trip was a wonderful one as it blended a good amount of riding and a decent trek. The morning fog element made this chapter a very memorable one. It was hard and fun at the same time, the right combination that we enjoy. And the two events on the hillock restored some amount of faith in humanity :) ”

KREW:

1. Bhai: The silent crusader waded through the entire ride without any complaints. Ready for any decisions. Had to wade through all the rubbish I was throwing at him haha:)

2. Sippy: Was actually surprised I could pull off the fog ride flawlessly, sometimes wonder whether all this travelling has woken a monster inside of me.

Until next time, Cia \m/

Madakasira Fort Trek Guide 🗻: Capturing the 500 year old fort hill of Andhra | Chap 217 (Dec 6, 2025)

The boa fort Madakasira, standing tall and above the town in Andhra Pradesh

Place
: Madakasira Fort Trek
Distance: 150kms x 2 = 300kms
Directions: Bangalore > Dobbaspete > Madhugiri > Madakasira
Krew: Anwar (Sharief Bhai) > Karthik (Sp)
Bikes: Pulsar
Previous VisitShivagange Trek
Budget: Rs 420/head (Total: Petrol = 600/2, Breakfast = 90/2, Lunch = 150/2)

IN LESS THAN 50 WORDS:

Madakasira is part of Andhra Pradesh, lying about 150 km from Bangalore. This is a 500-year-old fort also known as Simhagiri, the fort of the lion. Our visit was a superb & peaceful one, as there was no one around, and we had the fort to ourselves. A 300km trek is no doubt draining, but worth it with this one. And during the ride back, a crazy incident with a sheep(🐑) occurred, it was funny and heart-warming!

INTRO & PLAN:

With Bhai back in town, it was time to hit the roads again. It had been about 4 weeks since our epic Bhairavadurga trek.  Few treks will ever come close to that chapter, trust me on this one. So, anyway, the plan was simple, we had hit a few forts in the Dobbaspete direction, so the plan was to continue the assault one step at a time.
TIME: 08:00 (5/12/2025)

Hiker stands atop Madaksira Fort with the vast lands all around

ASSEMBLE & LEAVE:

Oh yeah, woke up at 03:00, did a few push-ups and sit-ups, had a sip of coffee and was all set to go. By 04:00, I was sitting outside on the road. At 05:15, Anwar arrived, and we took off from Bangalore. It had been a while since we headed out, so it felt good. The air was icy cold.
TIME: 05:15
The sun hardly visible amidst the fog and the air had turned icy cold

RIDE 1: (Bangalore – Dobbaspete – Madhugiri – Madakasira Fort)

This was a 150km ride, broken down into three fragments. As we started the ride, it was really cold, but the joy of returning back on the road somehow overpowered or rather delayed, the sensation of how cold it truly was. We rode non-stop, chatting all the way, until post-dobbaspet to pull over at our regular Idli stop.
TIME: 06:45

The best breakfast on trek, simple idli and vada

As we got off the bike, we realised the temperature, and we were shivering. Hands, owing to the cold, had completely hardened.  Dipping into the idlis felt really good. Having some tea, we set off. Waving a big "hi" to Channarayana Durga hillock outline, we continued to reach Madhugiri, to find her completely shrouded in fog, whew, what a sight it was! With 100km in the bag, we cruised into Andhra for 50km passing by the mighty Medigeshi Fort, bending our heads after the ass whooping we had got last visit, we entered the beautiful town of Madakasira, asking locals for the starting point, and with the ibex's spirit awake within us, we were READY!
TIME: 08:30

Anwar climbing up a boulder, at the boa shape fort Madakasira watching him closely

MADAKASIRA FORT TREK:

It took us about 45 minutes to ascend the fort. The weather was perfect, cool and dry. The fort has 7 gateways that lead to the summit. Not everybody makes it to the top of the fort, due to a technical stretch in the end. The trek can be divided into the following stages: Stairway to heaven, Boa’s belly and Final test
So, try keeping up with me on this one. Here goes:

i) Stairway to Heaven:

The initial stretch is pretty straightforward. A lot of well-laid ancient steps took us along a well-guided path until we spotted the stairs route right in the middle of two gigantic boulders, making it look like the stairway to heaven. This stretch is very easy and takes a matter of minutes to complete.

Anwar climbs the stairway in between the two gigantic boulders at the Madakasira trek

ii) Boa’s belly:

This is the core of the trek, the boa's belly. A lot of 90-degree turns, often, is misleading, well, I mean, that is the purpose of the construction that way as well. You wouldn't want to welcome enemies with a straight line red carpet. You can spot a lot of outposts and a Shiva temple at this stage. Knowing the lay of the land we dashed through this stretch as well.

Sippy navigating the confusing Madakasira fort to perfection

iii) Final tester:

Alright, ready for the last part? Once you are out of the boa fort, the summit is still pending. And this requires some skill to ascend, trust me. And the reason we call it Boa's fort will become evident once you ascend this part. As we got out of the fort,  we found ourselves with the ultimate challenge. Even though a steel rope had been placed, we had our doubts about where it was fastened to, so we did some free-style rock climbing to reach the top. And btw, the steel rope was fastened to a small tree, well, not very reliable, I would say
TIME: 09:30

Sippy rock climbing the most difficult part of Madakasira fort trek

TOP:

As we reached the top, the wind speed picked up. We reached the final mantap on the top and felt so rejuvenated. We rang the bell and declared the completion of the trek. As we sat there, the winds kept blowing at a scary pace, which was actually comforting in a way. We saw a few eagles flying below, we chuckled at it, saying, "We dare to go where eagles dare".
Sitting atop, we discussed the upcoming trips and also the past trips. We had some water and felt really refreshed, as we were about to head back, we heard eagle sound, saw the eagles flying above us, it was like they had heard us and were mocking at us haha!
TIME: 10:15

Anwar making his way to the summit point at Madakasira fort trek in Andhra Pradesh

TREK DOWN:

Well, the trek down took us only 30 minutes, but it had a few intense moments. That is right, the two vertical rock faces. I made my way down first, wedging my feet between rock faces. Then Anwar came next with me as the safety net. After the final stretch, it was plain walking down the ancient well-laid steps to reach the town, where we had parked our bikes. Oh yeah, on our way back, we spotted a snake, but by the time we got our hands on it, it slipped away. Damn, maybe next time!
TIME: 10:45

Sippy standing amidst the dark bat caves at the Madakasira fort

RIDE 2: (Madakasira – Madhugiri – Dobbaspete– Bangalore)

This was a 150 km ride back home, and the ride felt really smooth. We had allowed the bike to come to life and guide us back. We sailed through smoothly and, more importantly, nonstop 75km until Kortagere, where we pulled over at our standard juice shop. After spending about an hour here, we headed out at 1pm.

As we left, a lorry with sheep was heading beside us. I have a habit of making faces or waving at the kids. So decided, why not try it with a sheep? I waved at it and smiled at it. And guess what it was responding to it with a loud Baah! We laughed our assess off, happy and surprised, we actually followed the truck for a good 10-15km, enjoying with our newfound friend on the road! :) 🐑

Sippy amidst the cave atop the summit of Madakasira Fort

We rode flawlessly until Nelamangala, where we pulled over at Whity Dhaba for some light lunch. Then we proceeded to take the NICE road and enter back into the city.
TIME: 16:00

CONCLUSION:

This place has a place of its own on the trek list. We would give a solid 4/5 any day. It is a fun climb. Give it a shot! With Bhai back to town, it was a refreshing long ride, 300km and trek to top it, feels draining, but with the right spirits, can be pulled off - take it anyway u want haha”
Until next time, Cia \m/

Shivagange Trek Guide ⛰️: Vertical Ascent, Blind Fog, & Sacred Steps | Chap 216 (Nov 22, 2025)

Koof ascending the final vertical steps on foggy day at Shivagange

Place: Shivagange (Shivaganga) Trek
Distance: 60 x 2 = 120km
Directions: Bangalore > Nelamangala > Shivagange
Krew: Dileep(Koof) > Karthik (Sp)
Bikes: NS400
Previous Visit: Madhugiri Trek - how we conquered the largest monolith of Asia!
Budget: Rs 250/head (Petrol = Rs500/2)

IN LESS THAN 50 WORDS:

This is one trek where you can still catch a glimpse of the fog. Reason? Well, it is only 60km from Bangalore and the route is perfectly clear. Our run was an excellent one. Slightly disappointed with the crowd, but we can't control these things. But the trek is nothing short of supreme, especially on a foggy day. This is our 3rd time at the place; the previous two were Shivagange Rain Trek  & Shivagange Dry Trek. Oh yeah, this was another no-breakfast trek.
And now I present to you the fog trek :)

INTRO & PLAN:

The plan was simple. After Madhugiri, last week, the feet were itchy for another one. Koof was on the confirmed list. But on 21st Nov, I got caught right below a cloud burst for 5min in Bangalore, and was completely drenched. I almost wanted to pull off the trip, but sometimes, I'm too lazy to use the phone to cancel, I guess.
TIME: 22:00 (21/11/2025)

Sippy amidst the green thickets, with Shivagange partly shrouded in fog in the background

ASSEMBLE & LEAVE:

Yeah, I was up at 3am, did a few push-ups and pull-ups, had a sip of coffee and was all set to go. Called Koof, he woke and said he was at his relative's place and asked me to come near Nayandahalli. 5 Minutes later, Koof called and said he was at his home, and it was a dream haha! He arrived at my place, hopped onto his bike, and we left Bangalore.
TIME: 05:00

RIDE 1: (Bangalore- Nelamangala – Dobbaspete - Shivagange)

This was a 60 km ride. It was a complete no-nonsense ride. We cruised at a decent pace to get out of the city. As we reached Nelamangala, heavy fog set in; we were kinda used to it. We slowed down and searched for the correct deviation from the highway. Once on the country roads, the fog came to life even more, and it was a beautiful ride to reach the base of the hillock.
TIME: 06:30

Koof sitting at the summit of shivagange. The fog had engulfed the summit, making it a surreal experience.

SHIVAGANGE TREK:

Alright, had my doubts on Shivagange, as with Madhugiri, these are commercialised quite heavily. But she didn't disappoint. I mean, yes, the density of people is quite heavy, but the trek in its absolute sense is a beauty. Even though it has railings and provides you a sense of safety throughout via steps, the steps are something else, especially if it a fog-enshrouded day like our treks. Like always, I have divided the trek into the following sections:
i) To the Nandi Gateway - marks the 25%
ii) To the Shiva Parvati Statues - marks the 50%
iii) Stairway to Heaven
So, what do you think? Try to keep up with me, here!

The Nandi gateway marks about 25% completion

i) To the Nandi Gateway: (0 to 25%)

This is the easiest part of the trek as the terrain is more or less flat. The trek begins with some steps right to the temple. From the temple, you need to take a left and pass through some ancient ruins of temples, and the path is very obvious with shops all along the way.
With Koof huffing and puffing all along the way, I broke a stick for the monkey's but it came in handy to keep driving Koof up and upwards.

The Shiva and Parvathi statues indicate the half way stage on Shivagange

ii) To the Shiva Parvati Statues - (25 to 50%)

Okay, this stretch is still easy. But the terrain slightly gets wild and freestyle. But this stretch is really beautiful. And in winter, you start encountering the fog right around this stretch. Its a beautiful stretch but needs caution. You can start seeing the might of the hillock, wondering how much more to climb right at this stretch.

The last flight of stairs are scary and risky on a foggy day, but can be done easily if caution is practised.

iii) Stairway to Heaven:

After passing around the Shiva & Parvathi statues, the trek gets intense. A flight of stairs that leads directly into the skies. And on a foggy day, it looks like the sacred steps into the clouds of heaven. It is pretty intimidating to look at, but, is pretty easy as it has railings all throughout. But a word of caution, on a rainy or foggy day, the steps have condensed water, and the rocks are not the rough ones you get, so slipping is a high probability. So extreme caution is advised at this stage.

By the end of this stage, you meet the friendly Nandi, which marks the top and finish of the summit. Well, our experience, Koof got his energy up by this time and started pushing along and enjoying the climb into the fog.
TIME: 08:00

View from the Shivagange Summit on a foggy day

TOP:

The Nandi statue looked so mystifying this time, covered with a blanket of mist, he sat peacefully. With all the crowd, we just went and sat at a peaceful spot. The winds were strong, and with the fog around, it made the whole atmosphere chilly. We tried to catch some sleep, but with all the howling from the people, I actually felt sorry for the rowdy monkeys of this hillock. We rested about 20-30min and decided to head back.
TIME: 08:30

Koof taken aback by the foggy winds that hit the hillock on our way back

TREK DOWN:

The trek down was a smooth one; we took about an hour. But we had to be doubly cautious as the slippery stairs would be a sure-fire recipe for disaster. a good rule of thumb to keep here is, until one foot is strongly embedded, do not lift the other one. I know it's basic, but basics work well. We were more or less doing the descent at a very good pace, then all of a sudden, Koof got the urge to eat Maggie (pahadi maggie). And there are a lot of shops. Koof took some Maggie, and I had a couple of cups of tea. We reached the base safely and hopped on the bike and took off.
TIME: 09:30

Koof descending Shivagange with caution every step

RIDE 2: (Shivagange – Bangalore)

Well, there is no shortage of power for NS 400. As we left Shivagange, we could see the mountain clearly. The fog had lifted, and it was a good trip. Having skipped breakfast, we took a call to skip it for good and head home directly. As we reached Bangalore by 10:30, at a traffic signal, we decided to pull over for a light beer and head back home.  We sat and discussed about the trip and how good the past month has treated us with a trek every week. Finally, Koof dropped me back and headed home.
TIME: 12:00

CONCLUSION:

Well, this was one amazing chapter. Even though Shivagange is being commercialised and heavy density of people, it did not disappoint. The fog made the trek special. But if you ask me, I would return on a weekday sometime next year :)

KREW

Koof: Made the monkey stick useful by trying to sit down at every nice big boulder he would find. Making me run back to him and drive him up.

Madhugiri Fort Trek Guide: Conquer Asia's Largest Monolith | Chap 215 (Nov 16, 2025)

After completion of the Madhugiri trek.

Place: Madhugiri Fort Trek
Distance: 100x 2 = 200kms.
Directions: Bengaluru – Dobbaspete – Madhugiri –  Bengaluru.
Particiapants: Dileep (Koof) > Karthik (Sippy).
Bikes: NS400
Previous visit: Bhairavadurga trek.
Budget: Rs450/head. (Petrol = 400Rs, breakfast = 30Rs)
Difficulty: High endurance / Low technical.

IN LESS THAN 50 WORDS:

This was one good, gruelling trek.  Madhugiri is Asia's largest monolith (at least according to its welcome board sign). We used to ride past her on every one of our previous 6 trips in a month. Yeah, has been a crazy end to 2025. Madhugiri is a pretty easy one in terms of technicality, but it's a never-ending endurance grinder. But yeah, this place is slightly commercial, and you can find people here as early as 6am. No Entry Fees and 6am-6pm are the timings. Oh yeah, last but not least, Madhu-giri = Honey hill, because a lot of honeybee colonies on this hill.

Sippy amidst the fields, with madhugiri in background

INTRO & PLAN:

Madhugiri and Savandurga are the largest monoliths of Asia. And Madhugiri, trust me, is pretty scary to look at when viewed from the front. It is like a never-ending rock that goes through the clouds. On a foggy day, it sends a shiver down anybody who lifts their head up and looks at it. Koof was on the confirmed list. And we had decided to leave early at 5am or so.
TIME: 22:00 (15/11/2025)

NS400 one stable cruiser

ASSEMBLE:

Yeah, I was up at 03:00am, did a few push-ups and sit-ups. After which, I gave Koof a wake-up call. Listened to some Goth, Doom and Stoner metal and. prepped myself up for the day. Koof came to my home and said, one bike was suffice. So, parked my bike back and hopped onto his and off we went.
TIME: 05:00

Misty and foggy ride to madhugiri on Nov 2025

RIDE 1: (Bengaluru – Dobbaspete – Madhugiri)

This was a 100km one-way ride. But what should have been a straightforward ride, turned out to be a topsy-turvy roller coaster. As we left Bangalore, things were calm. Then, post-Nelamangala, a blanket of heavy fog came over the roads and engulfed us. The visibility was reduced to freaking 50-100feet. With the icy fog raging on, our muscles became stiff, and my butt started to yell out in pain.

Foggy ride. Visibility was reduced to almost nil.

We pulled over and stretched out a little bit to get the blood flowing, while stretching also we were also shivering despite all the jackets, etc, haha. We made it to our favourite idly spot post Dobbaspete and pulled over for some piping hot idlis, hoping that would at least cure the shivering.
TIME: 06:30 hrs

Idly and bajji helping us sooth down from the cold ride

After a relaxing breakfast with tea, we realised the fog was still howling at us. As we left the breakfast spot, the fog began to lift, making riding slightly better. Madhugiri was still nowhere to be seen.  Parked our bikes at the entrance, and with the goat's spirit wide awake, we were ready for the mighty trek.
TIME: 07:30

MADHUGIRI FORT TREK:

Alright, Madhugiri trek. Well, it's pretty scary to look at from afar, but once you come face to face with it, it's like an elephant, mighty but gentle (at least the gentle ones). But trust me, the grind is real. It would feel like a never-ending climb to the skies. We took about 1h, 20min to climb the hillock, with extensive breaks (details below!:P)

Even the final stretch has stairs

The strange part about this fort is, a fort wall's height cleverly masks the next one. So, a climber would be amazed/devastated (depending on the enthusiasm) to see the next stretches keep coming, one after another, making it a good mental tester. Ok, let me break down the phases of the trek into these:

i) Initial gateways
ii) Danger Zone
iii) Never-ending stretch

Alright, here goes, keep up with me here!

Initial gateways are easy to navigate and requires about 15-30minutes

Initial gateways:

The trek started off with a pretty easy stretch, with a lot of steps and a clear path. But hey, remember, steps drain you out. So, we decided to keep the pace slow, but no stops. At least that is what I was telling, before I turned around and saw Koof lazily on the floor resting in a half-sitting, half-sleeping position, haha!

The gateways are very easy to navigate. After a couple of gateways, it opens up to a small grass patch, where a clear, narrow path takes you to the next phase of the trek. Once you get a whale-shaped rock, it signifies that the second phase of the trek has begun.
TIME: 07:45

The most vertical ascent of Madhugiri

Danger Zone:

As soon as I spotted the whale-shaped rock, I pointed it out and jumped with joy. Koof looked at me, thought some clown must have possessed me. Alright, this stretch has railings and can be easily navigated. And the cross-traverse part of this section is considered to be the riskiest, and makes "Madhugiri"  the most dangerous trek of all? I mean facts, yes, cross-traversing a rock face is tough and dangerous, BUT. What if you take it HEAD ON and climb the vertical face itself? And that is exactly what we did :) Btw, there is a safe alternate route via railings which eventually joins the railing shown in the picture above and below.

resting on the steepest part of ascent of madhugiri hillock

A few people gasped, a few other people called us crazy, but we continued being ourselves. Once we were out of the so-called "danger zone", then came the merciless, ruthless, relentless, running out of adverbs here, haha. - the never-ending climb!
TIME: 08:15

The last stretch is the longest at madhugiri and drains you out

Never-ending stretch:

Now, after doing the danger zone, some might be feeling the adrenaline-pumping feeling you have reached the top. Hold your horses, it's, I guess, somewhere around 50% of the trek. Yes, AND NOW, the grind STARTS.

The never ending grind to the top at madhugiri

Make your mind strong, from here it's a ruthless never never-ending climb. Remember the fort walls masking the next stage I had mentioned earlier? You will experience it here. Every time you feel it is the END, you will see another stretch ready to be served, with a crooked smile.  Koof in most of the treks, find the views along the way more enjoyable than the actual summit.

The push to the summit

I am not sure if it is an excuse for sitting. I had to cook up stories like "from the top of Madhugiri, you can see two suns, if you reach before 9am," etc, to keep him rolling, haha! After a hard time keeping Koof motivated with my cooked-up stories, we pushed to the summit. I mean, literally pushing, huh, see image above. And here are some motivational stories I cooked up for koof:
a. you will get kuska from the king's kitchen at the summit
b. the fog always is hidden in a room on the summit
c. the king's wife can be heard time to time singing, only at the summit etc.,

Finally the top of madhugiri

MADHUGIRI FORT TOP:

As we reached the top, Koof, like always, started saying how easy the trek (sarcastically of course) and he is used to these kinds of treks for early morning walks, etc., I stared at him and said "go down and come back, I will wait here",  haha. We explored the granaries and old ruins at the top, then came to the entrance at the top and slept off there for 10-15 minutes. The spot we chose was slightly off the route, few poor travellers thought that was the route. We immediately warned them and pointed towards the actual route. The face below was the steepest 90deg rock face :P. After a peaceful nap, well rested we decided to head back.

DESCENT:

The descent was a quick one; we took about 45 minutes to an hour to get back to base. And hey, non-stops on this one, felt really happy. We cruised past the "gruelling stretch" in a jiffy, asking her, sorry for all the names we called her on the way up. Then came the danger zone, well, no prizes for guessing, we took the steep route down, haha.
I was making fun of Koof's bike, saying "first time, I'm not stressed while climbing down, but what scares me is sitting as pillion on your bike, my butt is gonna become rock solid :P" Once we reached the base of the hillock, Koof started making fun of me saying, "this was the easiest trek of all, i need something more challenging etc., etc.,"

RIDE 2: (Madhugiri – Kortagere - Dobbaspete- Bangalore)

As we left Madhugiri, Koof said i try riding. And I was very sceptical, but as i started, I felt really good. And lots of power. Before a blink, i was cruising at 80-90kmph on empty highway roads. We spotted a local juice shop near Koratagere, where we pulled in for about 1 to 1.5Ihrs.

After which Koof took over and cruised at a very good pace, dropped me to my home as we decided to skip lunch and left to his home respectively.

CONCLUSION:

"This was one grinding encounter. Madhugiri lived up to its expectation of being an endurance tester. It gives that sense of safe-ness. With whole families around coming to enjoy a picnic, it doesn't offer a raw, isolated, wild trek. But for a beginner, it is the perfect choice!!

KREW:

Koof - knew if it was one person to pull it off within 1.5 hours, it was him. But last thing i wanted to do was sit next to him, he would doze off 1-2hrs haha...
Sippy - Having seen IT recently and getting inspired by the clown, kept the spirits high. And yeah, no glute exercises needed for the week :P

Until next time, Sayonara \m/
